This is an introductory lesson into the specific measurement units for length. Students will explore the difference in units and apply them to measure different objects.

By the end of this chapter, students will be able to:

• use a meter stick, measuring tape, yardstick and ruler to measure lengths.
• measure and estimate lengths in meters, centimeters, inches, feet and yards.
• compare two lengths measured in metric units and customary units.
• solve one-step, two-part and two-step word problems involving length.
